Welcome, Lizzie Meier

Please join us in welcoming Lizzie Meier to the Healthy Acadia team!

Lizzie joins our SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education Team and works to support food security across Hancock County. As a Maine SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator, Lizzie helps SNAP-eligible households gain knowledge and skills to eat healthily on a limited budget and provides coordination for nutrition education and obesity prevention initiatives across Hancock County in accordance with USDA SNAP-Ed guidelines.

Lizzie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Literary Studies and German Studies at Bard College at Simon's Rock, and a Master of Library and Information Science from Simmons College. She has worked primarily in public libraries, with a specific focus on providing outreach and programming to community members of all ages. Hailing from Great Barrington, Massachusetts, Lizzie and her partner purchased Folklore Farm in Cherryfield in the winter of 2021, and have been farming in our community ever since.

Lizzie, what prompted you to join the Healthy Acadia team?

Through work on our small vegetable farm, I have had a firsthand look at how our neighbors navigate food systems in our area. Members of our community regularly face complex barriers when it comes to accessing nutritious, delicious food. I wanted to join the Healthy Acadia team because I see this organization working in a myriad of ways to combat these barriers to good food.

What most inspires you about Healthy Acadia's work?

I am so excited to get started in my SNAP-Ed role because I look forward to creating positive experiences with nutritious food for kids and adults. I am inspired by all of the work that Healthy Acadia does to strengthen the health and well-being of our rural communities; it makes me feel really grateful to live and work Downeast!

What most inspires you on a personal level?

I am most inspired by strengthening and building community. I am passionate about connecting community members with needed resources and creating joyful spaces to foster community education and relationships!

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

I love to swim in the many beautiful lakes in our area! My favorite lake is Spring River Lake; the water is so clear, and the view of the mountains across the water is incredible. I grew up open water swimming with my Dad, and the lakes in Maine are such a privilege to be able to swim in.

I live and farm with my partner, Dan; our dog, Harry; and our cat, Layla. We love to hike, try out new restaurants, and see live music. I am also an avid singer, ukulele player, and whistler! I love to play for assisted living communities, kids, and families, and at the Cherryfield Open Mic night every Wednesday.
