Internship Opportunity: Machias Community Supper Organizer
The University of Maine has an exciting internship opportunity available immediately for the academic year 2023/24 (with an option to extend) through the Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions.
This paid Internship offers ANYONE in the community the opportunity to work as part of a Mitchell Center, Machias Area Food Pantry, and Healthy Acadia team to develop a weekly Machias Community Supper. The goal of the Machias Community Supper is to reduce wasted food, promote resident health/nutrition, and strengthen the Machias food system.
The internship will provide a variety of work-ready skills and experience. Applicants must be available to work approximately 6-10 hours per week – with potential for position growth and expansion. Click here for shareable flyer (PDF).
Key Responsibilities:
Work with the Mitchell Center food waste team and Machias community partners to start a regular community supper in Machias.
Build community awareness of the food waste problem and solutions.
Work with UMaine/Mitchell Center team to reduce food waste in the Machias area.
Help the Machias Area Food Pantry team feed more people.
Assist with organization and launch of an ongoing, weekly Machias community supper.
Work with local farmers, food distributors, retailers, community members, and food recyclers.
Learn to complete simple written reports to track success of the community supper.
