Go Green this St. Patrick's Day

March is Nutrition Month. Did you know that dark, leafy greens like spinach, chard, and kale, are nutrient powerhouses filled with vitamins and other key nutrients that support health? Go green and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a special (non-alcoholic!) drink - try this Green Smoothie for a celebratory breakfast or snack!

This nutritious smoothie pairs mild-tasting spinach with yummy fruit (try either apple, strawberry, or another frozen berry). All of these fruits are high in Vitamin C, which helps your body absorb the iron in the spinach more easily - pretty lucky, right?!

If you’re looking for a more decadent drink, try this Healthy Shamrock Shake for a lighter take, on a classic fast-food St. Patricks’ day treat, that is full of healthy fats and classic peppermint flavor.

SNAP-Ed educators at Healthy Acadia offer year-round cooking and nutrition classes in partnership with schools and organizations throughout Hancock and Washington counties. To learn more or schedule a class, contact Kirsten in Washington County, or Nicole or Despe in Hancock County.
