Welcome, Sadie Cooley

Please join us in welcoming Sadie Cooley to the Healthy Acadia team!

Sadie joins us as our new MDI FarmDrop Program Assistant.

Hailing from Santa Fe, New Mexico, Sadie attended College of the Atlantic, studying postcolonial theory, literature, art history, theater, and gardening, and graduating with a degree in Human Ecology. In her new role, Sadie assists with MDI FarmDrop order processing, helping to support sustainable local food systems by connecting community members to local farmers and growers.

Sadie, what prompted you to join the Healthy Acadia team?

I was looking for other ways to connect with a community outside of my College of the Atlantic Community and had heard many great things about Healthy Acadia, so when a friend suggested I apply to the FarmDrop position I jumped at it.

What most inspires you about Healthy Acadia's work?

I also work at the Southwest Harbor Public Library, so seeing the community in different locations and learning about their passions for such a variety of things is probably my favorite part of the job. I also have to say that smelling all the fresh produce and baked goods is a great way to start the day. It's been absolutely fascinating as well to learn more about the myriad of programs run by Healthy Acadia.

What most inspires you on a personal level?

Deep, critical thinkers, and then people who act on those thoughts!

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

I love standing in the sunlight when I'm surrounded by the forest and close to the water. I can hear and feel every living thing around me in those moments and it makes me feel extra alive.

I also love reading, and my favorite non-fiction books lately have been written by inspiring Maine women such as Susan Letcher and Helen Hamlin!

Sadie currently resides in Blue Hill.
