Volunteer with the Healthy Acadia Gleaning Initiative at Farmers' Markets This Summer!

Healthy Acadia works across Hancock and Washington counties to support and grow farmers' markets and to help increase awareness of, and access to, these markets, particularly among people experiencing low income.

We're seeking volunteers to help staff our information booths at the Blue Hill Farmers' Market and the Bar Harbor Eden Farmers' Market. These booths provide essential support to shoppers by offering information and assistance about food programs, such as SNAP, WIC, Maine Harvest Bucks, Maine Senior Farm Share (Bar Harbor), and POP Bucks (Blue Hill).

As a volunteer, you'll play a key role in connecting community members to these valuable programs, ensuring they can access fresh, local food at the markets.

Don't wait—get involved today and help us make a difference in supporting local food access at farmers' markets!

Healthy Acadia’s Downeast Gleaning Initiative works to combat food insecurity by organizing farm-based gleaning efforts across Hancock and Washington counties. We partner with local farms, orchards, farmers’ markets, and community gardens to engage volunteers in collecting surplus fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste. This fresh produce is then distributed to food pantries, community meal programs, rehabilitation centers, school backpack programs, and other vital community organizations, ensuring that healthy food reaches those in need.
