Farmers’ Market Season is Here!

It’s officially summer, and farmers' market season is here!
Shopping at and supporting farmers’ markets is a powerful way to invest in your local community. When you buy directly from farmers, you help sustain small farms and local food producers, keeping dollars circulating in the local economy. Farmers’ markets also offer fresh, seasonal foods that are often harvested at peak ripeness, making them more flavorful and nutritious.
Supporting these markets helps preserve farmland, encourages environmentally friendly growing practices, and builds stronger connections between people and the food they eat. Plus, farmers’ markets create vibrant community spaces where neighbors can gather, learn, and grow together.
At Healthy Acadia, we’re proud to support and grow farmers’ markets across Hancock and Washington counties. Our goal is to help everyone—especially people with limited income—access fresh, healthy, local food. We partner with local markets and vendors to make it easier for them to accept SNAP/EBT (formerly known as food stamps) and to offer Maine Harvest Bucks, a program that helps stretch your food dollars.
Here’s how it works. When SNAP shoppers use their EBT cards to buy eligible foods at participating markets, they get bonus Maine Harvest Bucks—extra money they can use to buy more fresh fruits and vegetables. These bucks can be used the same day or saved for future visits.
Let’s celebrate the bounty of the season and support our local farmers together!
