Communities Partners Saving Lives

Every year, lives are lost to opioid overdose. Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids, including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioid medications.

As a nasal spray, naloxone is safe and easy to use. Click here to learn more. Healthy Acadia offers free training to community members, businesses, and organizations who wish to carry this life-saving tool.

Join us in celebrating these organizations for helping to save lives in our community by becoming trained to administer naloxone.

Bar Harbor Fire Department becomes a Tier 2 Naloxone Distributor

Bar Harbor Fire Department has been working with Healthy Acadia staff to increase the availability of Naloxone on MDI. In October, Assistant Fire Chief John Lennon also worked with Bangor Public Health to be trained to distribute Naloxone kits to community members. Bar Harbor Fire Department is the first fire department in Hancock County to become a tier 2 distributor, and only the sixth in the entire state!

College of the Atlantic

In October, Healthy Acadia Harm Reduction Outreach Coordinator Beth Alteri teamed up with John Lennon from Bar Harbor Fire Department to offer Naloxone training at the College of the Atlantic. Approximately 50 kits were distributed to students, staff, and community members. “We are trained to administer Naloxone” signs were provided to students interested in displaying them on their dorm room windows.
